VIVO MUSIC FESTIVAL
VIVO Music Festival is an annual summer chamber music festival in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio. I conceived and founded VIVO with co-artistic director and childhood friend from Columbus, Jack Stulz (violist of Ensemble Intercontemporain), as an outlet for creativity and collaboration for a community that means so much to both of us.
Jack and I spent our formative years in New York City, during which we were both trained in Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect (Ensemble ACJW) program and the Marlboro Music Festival. VIVO is an amalgamation of those two institution’s core values: artistic integrity, community integration, and innovative relevancy.
Over the course of the past few seasons, it has been immensely gratifying to go beyond performing to advocating the arts to be further relevant in our society today. Curating programs is a deep passion for me as well. From presenting Georg Friedrich Haas’ hour-long quartet (performed from memory in complete darkness) for a sold-out audience, to performing Beethoven’s Septet for folks enjoying brews, VIVO’s actively introducing a wide gamut of experiences.
I very much look forward to working with Jack and the VIVO team for many more years to come. On a personal level, it’s an absolute joy to play incredible music with world-class colleagues for my family and hometown friends. Go Bucks!
